If Dumbledore Had Gotten Breast Implants Would Snape Still Have Killed Him?

It’s that time again lovelies! It’s time for…
SATURDAY SANITY!
For those of you new around these parts, Saturday Sanity is when I round up all the mental health news highlights, research updates, and interesting exercises and tools to improve mental health or just have fun that I’ve found throughout the week but for one reason or another wasn’t able to blog about them during the week.
So, if you’re ready to read about Albus Dumbledore, breast implants, and great online spots to zone out and relax, let’s go!
- ‘Dumbledore theory’ of aging presented - This theory’s name obviously caught my attention, but when I found out which Harry Potter quote University of Illinois Professor Elizabeth Stine-Morrow was using to get the Dumbledore part of her theory’s name…well, I just wonder if she’s actually read the books. The theory itself doesn’t seem to be moving forward, either.
- Suicide Attempts Decline With Psychotherapy or Antidepressants - But I thought we were afraid antidepressants were contributing to suicide risks? Well, some researchers are saying Antidepressant Effectiveness May Depend on Genes.
- New Insights on how Mental Health is Influenced by Culture and Immigration Status - The article is exactly a month old, but goes along quite nicely with our talk about health literacy.
- Creative Synergy: A portrait of New York City artist Martin Cohen - The tale of a man who refused to let schizophrenia stand in the way of his dreams.
- Women Who Receive Breast Implants More Likely to Commit Suicide - Wow, I never saw that one coming. Really. I’m not being sarcastic. I wonder how - and if - this will affect reality shows such as Extreme Makeover and Dr. 90210.
- Learning: In Tiny Part of the Brain, a Key to Foreign Tongues - Maybe I should call up my old high school French teacher and revive my case on why cheating was necessary.
- Psychiatric Center for Teenagers Is Mired in Patient Accusations of Rape - I stopped playing jury duty based on news reports alone a long time ago. I sincerely hope this isn’t true.
And now, on a couple lighter notes…
- I wish I had a place like this to go to relax and recharge when things get to stressful.
- Just another one of those crazy things I zone out with when my brain needs a break.
And that’s all the Saturday Sanity I have for today, folks, but if you have something interesting to share, please do!

The problem with all the media coverage of the study linking breast implants to suicide is that they all assume that those women who killed themselves started out crazy in the first place. In fact, women with implants are very likely to experience terrible complications, leading to depression. Please read more about it here: http://beautyandthebreast.org/?p=52#comments

Very good point, WordFrk. I’ve never even been in a plastic surgeons office; I’ve only seen those “makeover” shows I mentioned above. I’m sure (or I hope) surgeons talk with the women about such complications before surgery. I wonder, however, if they talk to them about the depression that may follow those complications?
