I Can’t Stop Crying

by Alicia Sparks, NAMI Affiliation Leader on October 20th, 2007

OK, I don’t mean that literally. I can stop crying; however, it doesn’t take much to get me started again!

Let’s back up.

Late September/early October, I stopped taking Cymbalta, and experienced the withdrawal symptoms from Hell. I know much of it had to do with the fact that I quit cold turkey, rather than weening myself off. But, I digress.

After about a week and a half, all withdrawal symptoms - except for occasional brain zaps and…”delicate” emotions - had disappeared. Now, three weeks after quitting Cymbalta, the brain zaps are even less occasional, but I’m crying all the time - over everything!

Case in point:

Over the past week, I’ve probably cried - or at least teared up - an average of five times a day. The examples listed above? Those are just the things that stick out in my mind since yesterday morning. There are “happy cries,” too, I just can’t think of any at the moment.

After doing some reading and talking with others who have withdrawn - or who are currently withdrawing - from Cymbalta, this random crying over every little thing seems to be normal.

Anyone else experience this? During or after quitting any kind of medication?

Needless to say, Saturday Sanity will be Sunday Sanity.

You sure hit the nail on the head, so to speak. Even today there is a stigma attached to a man crying but at times I can’t help it. I am not a pet lover but when I hear or see a pet abuse story, I tear up.

Not sure you were serious about ole Severus but for me it was dobbie the house elf. :)

Oh, I know! Don’t even get me started on pet abuse - I read an article last weekend about…oh, crap, I forget where it was now…Puerto Rico, that’s where. Anyway, I won’t get into the details of the actions of their Animal Control Department because I don’t want to throw that sad news at you, but it made national news so if you’re willing to risk a MAJOR cry AND rage fest, you’ll have no trouble finding it on Google.

Dobby was my first cry (when reading the book)! I felt obligated to cry over Hedwig, I was definitely sad and shocked, but JKR made the scene so…quick and uneventful (if that makes sense) that I don’t think it really hit me. My serious cry while reading the book, though, was the “death scene” - well, actually, when Harry was talking with his parents beforehand. Jesus, I WAILED during that.

Isn’t it funny how Potter fans can just pick up a conversation any ol’ where? Haha.

I have been off of Paxil for a week now. But i did ween myself off. The Zaps are terrible but the last three days al I do is cry. I couldnt even listen to the guy play the Star Spangled Banner on his trumpet for the NASCAR race. Good Grief. I am usually pretty emo with Military/American stuff, but this is rediculous. I am going to try the Omega 3 this week.
