Time To Clean Your Systems - But How?

by Alicia Sparks, Mental Health Notes on December 17th, 2007

Over the past few months, we’ve talked a lot about withdrawing from anti-depressants here at Mental Health notes - especially withdrawing from Cymbalta.

A couple of days ago, the post Cymbalta: The Withdrawal Symptoms From Hell received a comment from a lady who’s currently withdrawing from Cymbalta and drinking weight-loss tea to help cleanse her system. I admit that I’m not up to par when it comes to methods to clean our systems out, nor am I aware of whether or not her method will work, is safe, etc.

However, I’m definitely interested! When you decide to rid your body of chemicals and go au naturale, shouldn’t you also be interested in ways to clean the remaining chemicals out of your body?

I’ve asked the lady to keep me posted on her progress, but in the meantime, is there anyone out there who is familiar with special diets/foods/drinks/methods of cleaning our systems?

Hmm…maybe it’s time to give my ol’ pal Dr. Hsien-Hsien Lei a shout. I believe I’ve read some stuff she’s written - or at least mentioned - about this.

After I decided to withdraw from my Prozac-filled-life, I drank 2 liters of water (or decaf tea) a day, ate TONS of fiber, and exercised. I let it naturally come out of me, and I had very few withdrawal symptoms. My doctor was impressed with my ease of getting off the drug, and so when I have friends (or readers) who are getting off their anti-anxiety/anti-depressants, I recommend those three things!

Thanks so much for chiming in, Sarah! That definitely sounds like a safe and natural way to go, which is very important. And honestly, who couldn’t use more water, fiber, and exercise in their lives!

It’s have been a week since I stopped taking Cymbalta the cold-turkey way. My tongue feels funny, my brain seems to move in a different direction than the rest of my body…
I have been drinking at least a gallon of water per day since I stopped; in fact, the anxiety goes away when I´m drinking water. Also, I quit drinking alcohol 3 years ago, but I started drinking non alcoholic beer from time to time… quitting the those beverages has helped me too.
Still, I feel very weird.. hope this goes away
