Silver Ribbon Brain Disorders and Disabilities Awareness First Class Postage Stamp

I’ve mentioned silver ribbon products a couple of times this week. For those of you who don’t know what they are, or what the silver ribbon represents, visit the official Silver Ribbon Coalition Web site. Especially the ‘About’ section. Good stuff, good stuff.
And, the reason behind Mental Health Notes’ header.
Anyway, while browsing the very site I just sent you to, I discovered the Coalition has been working toward getting a Silver Ribbon Brain Disorders and Disabilities Awareness First Class Postage Stamp. They’ve been on this mission since 1999. Thus far, it’s been unsuccessful. 2007’s stamp went to Jury Duty Awareness.
Two things.
One, who knew it was so hard to have something become a stamp?
Two, Jury Duty Awareness? Exactly what in Merlin’s beard is that? The day we celebrate our jurors? The day we sympathize with our jurors? Explanation, please.
In light of the difficulty the Coalition is having in getting a Silver Ribbon Brain Disorders and Disabilities Awareness First Class Postage Stamp (and partly in light of my wanting to prevent further ridiculousness becoming stamp-worthy material, ahem, Jury Duty Awareness), I thought I’d let you all know how to help the stamp become a stamp:
Whether you’re an elected official, member of a brain-related organization, or part of the general public, you should send a letter to Executive Director Stamp Services, David E. Failor. Non-elected officials should also send letters to elected officials.
So, get to writing folks. Let’s prevent another Jury Duty Awareness-type travesty.
