Managing Depression With Omega-3 Fatty Acids

Last June, I talked about natural ways to help treat and manage depression. Friday, I started taking flaxseed oil to get more Omega-3 fatty acids. In the past two days, a couple of readers have commented on natural remedies for mental health issues. And, just last night, I found an interesting five-year study the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center’s Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurosciences in Los Angeles, the National Institutes of Health, and the Massachusetts General Hospital are working on regarding Omega-3 fatty acids and depression.
I figured this can’t all be coincidence. It’s time to learn more about it. And, as I research it (and wait to see what kinds of effects the flaxseed oil has on my own state of mind), I’d like to know what experiences you all have had with natural remedies for depression and/or bipolar disorder.
Consider this a call for entries. So, spill it! Share your experiences in the comments. And, if you have a lot to say, maybe you’d like to do a guest post here at Mental Health Notes.

Image source. The owner created the picture using flaxseed. Pretty cute, huh? Though, if we’re aiming for positive mental health benefits of flaxseed, maybe I should have chosen a picture in which the flaxseed is smiling…!
