Annoy A Bully: Wear Pink

“It’s my last year. I’ve stood around too long and I wanted to do something.” - David Shepherd.
Turn the other cheek. Try to understand why he’s a bully. Consider that his hurtful words and actions are probably fueled by - or masking - a deeper personal problem.
These are all common pieces of advice we […]

Get Curious, Get Motivated, Get Out Of Bed!

This is my dog Chopper, a.k.a Chops, a.k.a. Chopstick, a.k.a. Chopperstick. She’s the most photogenic animal I’ve ever encountered - not because she’s beautiful, but because she poses. For every picture. Seriously.
I’ve attempted this shot several times, and was thrilled that my camera finally flashed at the precise moment to catch one of her “curious […]

Mental Illness And High IQ Scores: One And The Same?

Yesterday I asked you to take an IQ test; not because I want to see how smart you all are, but because I want you to have some loose idea of your own IQ before I tell you the story of one man’s IQ and how it affected the entire first part of his life.
I […]

Six Years Later: 9/11 Still Wreaks Havoc On Mental Health

The blanket pulled over and tucked under my head wasn’t working. I could still hear it. I rolled over, haphazardly slammed my hand over the top of it, and walked my toes into a pair of Dollar Store slippers that had seen better days. They started heading directly toward the hazelnut-flavored coffee that had just […]

Bullies, False Memories, and Rat Brains - Oh My!

Howdy folks! Hope you’re all having a great Saturday thus far. I have some very thorough and past due cleaning to do, so you can pretty much imagine how mine will go.
Anyway, this week’s Saturday Sanity is going to take a bit of a different spin - just a bit, though. Instead of providing you […]

Does Beauty Make You More Mentally Alert and Satisfied?

I love Saturdays here at Mental Health Notes.
Why?
Because it’s time for Saturday Sanity!
I get to point you to all the interesting articles, resources, and other tidbits of information that I’ve run across throughout the week. Stuff that fascinated, confused, or enraged me - but stuff I didn’t have time - or enough knowledge about - […]

Pregnant Moms Beware: Stress May Affect Your Baby Long After Birth

Wow.
I read an article today about a very interesting study of over 14,000 British women.
The article, Stressed-out moms may keep infants awake, and the study suggests that babies born of stressed-out women are more likely to experience problems sleeping than babies born of calmer women.
I feel sorry for my babies, should I ever have any.
So, […]
